3 Years
The B.Sc. General (also called B.Sc. Programme) is designed for students who prefer a multi-disciplinary approach to science, without specializing in a single subject. It is suited for students who want to study a combination of subjects and have the flexibility to explore various fields in science.
Duration: 3 years (6 semesters)
Type: Full-time undergraduate degree
Mode: Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) under the University of Delhi’s academic framework
In the B.Sc. General program, students generally choose two main subjects and study them in combination. The subjects typically available include:
Physics
Basics of mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, optics, and quantum mechanics.
Chemistry
Organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, including lab experiments and chemical analysis.
Mathematics
Algebra, calculus, statistics, and probability, with real-world applications in science and technology.
Botany
Study of plant biology, ecology, and environmental science, with practical experience in plant research.
Zoology
Focus on animal biology, ecology, genetics, physiology, and environmental science.
Environmental Science
Study of environmental issues, sustainability, climate change, and ecosystem management.
Computer Science
Basics of programming, data structures, algorithms, and software development.
Geography
Study of the physical environment, geography of India, and cartography.
Core Courses: Each student will study two core subjects (e.g., Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science) and have to complete foundational and advanced papers in both.
Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC): Courses aimed at enhancing practical and professional skills such as data analysis, environmental conservation, or IT skills.
Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC): English/Hindi communication, environmental studies, and other general knowledge courses.
Elective Papers: Some flexibility to choose electives from related science disciplines, allowing interdisciplinary learning.
Eligibility:
Completion of 10+2 with Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology). Specific subject requirements may vary by combination.
Admission is based on the CUET (Common University Entrance Test) scores, which will determine eligibility and seat allotment.
Minimum Percentage Cutoffs:
Depending on the subject combination and competition, students typically require 50-60% aggregate marks in their 10+2 exams for eligibility.
Graduates of the B.Sc. General program can pursue a variety of career options in different fields, including:
Further Studies:
M.Sc. (Master’s in Science) in specialized subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, etc.
Professional courses like MCA (Master’s in Computer Applications), MBA, or M.Tech.
Teaching and research opportunities (with further qualifications).
Employment:
Science-related Jobs: Research assistant, laboratory technician, quality control, and environmental consultant.
IT & Tech: Software development, programming, and data analysis (especially for those who opt for Computer Science).
Environmental NGOs: Working in sustainability, conservation, or climate change sectors.
Government Exams: UPSC, SSC, State-level exams, and other competitive exams in science-related fields.
Flexibility: You get the chance to study a combination of science subjects according to your interests.
Interdisciplinary Learning: Exposure to various fields of science, enabling you to explore different areas before deciding on further specialization.
Balanced Curriculum: A mix of theory, practical work, and skill development prepares you for diverse career paths.
